Privacy and choice during personal care
Personal care involves parts of your life that you may prefer to keep private. We take time to learn how you want assistance provided, including the routine you are used to and the things that help you feel comfortable.
You may want a carer nearby for some tasks and more direct help with others. Your preferences guide the arrangement, alongside the support needed for safe care. You can raise a concern or ask for a change if something does not feel right.
Help with personal routines
You might need help with part of your morning routine, assistance getting ready for bed or more regular support throughout the day. We discuss what is becoming difficult and what you would prefer to keep doing yourself.
- Assistance with showering, bathing and washing.
- Help with dressing, grooming and everyday hygiene.
- Toileting and continence support.
- Assistance with moving around, transfers and positioning as agreed in your care plan.
- Help with meals and drinks, taking account of any advice from your treating team.
- Medication reminders that follow your prescribed routine.
Temporary help and ongoing personal care
You may need personal care for a short period after surgery, illness or an injury. For other people, regular support becomes part of living at home over the longer term. We can discuss both short-term and ongoing arrangements.
Personal care can also form part of support for someone living with dementia or receiving palliative care. Tell us about any communication, mobility or other care needs so we can consider a suitable carer and plan.
If household tasks are also becoming difficult, your arrangement can include practical help such as meals, laundry or shopping. See the range of home care services.
A carer who suits you
We consider your preferences when matching a carer, including personality, relevant experience and cultural or religious requirements. Let us know what matters to you about the person providing personal care.
Our carers undergo reference and police checks and are covered by insurance. We ask for feedback and can discuss a different match if you are not comfortable with the arrangement.

Working with family and existing providers
If a family member usually helps with personal care, a carer can provide agreed assistance while they rest or attend to other responsibilities. We discuss the usual routine and the tasks that need attention during the visit.
We can also work alongside other home care providers and your health professionals. With your consent, relevant care information can be shared so the people supporting you understand the arrangement.
Keeping families informed and involved
Good care does not happen in isolation. With your agreement, we stay in regular contact with family and let them know about any changes we notice in day to day wellbeing, mobility or routine.
If we think some extra help would make life easier, or that a small change at home would help someone stay safe, we will say so. That might mean suggesting a handrail, a walker, a commode or another simple aid, or talking through whether a home modification is worth considering. Our aim is to keep communication open and to work alongside families, not around them.
Morning visits and evening support
A morning visit may include assistance with washing and dressing before breakfast. An evening visit might involve toileting, changing clothes and getting ready for bed. We discuss the timing and tasks together so enough time is allowed for the care you need.
If assistance is also needed overnight, let us know what is involved and how often help is required. We can discuss overnight, live-in or 24-hour support where appropriate, subject to carer availability. The type of cover and costs are confirmed before care begins.
Personal care costs and getting started
Fees depend on the tasks involved, the visit times and the hours of care required. We explain the proposed support and costs before care begins. There are no administration fees, exit fees or long-term lock-in contracts; a notice period applies under your service agreement.
When you contact us, tell us your suburb, the parts of your routine you need help with and when you would like care to start. We will discuss suitable visit times and carer availability. If the request is urgent, let us know at the outset.

What Our Clients Say
With wishing to find the same good people
We engaged the services of Young at Heart over a year ago to provide companionship and security for my husband, while giving me peace of mind while I am out. We have been completely satisfied and delighted at the care and company he receives. They very quickly established a warm and pleasant friendship and he looks forward to seeing her each week.
She is a charming, friendly person, cheerful, punctual, reliable and immaculate in her presentation. Her visits give me a break and offer him a change of pace. Working with Young at Heart ensures that should our regular helper be away we will not be left in the lurch, but will always have an experienced person in her place. I heartily recommend this service as highly professional and easy to deal with.
Not only does Maria care for her Clients but she also cares about her Staff.
It is so rewarding to work as a valued and respected member of Staff, where your skills are really appreciated.
